eDiscovery: Enterprise Hoarders - Maintaining Defensibility in an Era of Big Data Stockpiling

Webinar approx. 60 min. (1 Hr. CLE)
The technological capacity to sift and analyze data accelerates with each passing day, and this is especially true for unstructured data – the data of human communications – which make up the bulk of daily business interactions. With storage growing ever cheaper, industry is increasingly locked in an arms race of data collection: stockpiling masses of information in the hope that it will eventually be leveraged for strategic value.

Within the enterprise, individual business units are often hoarding troves of data such as social media to new extremes, with little regard for what others are doing or collecting. For in-house counsel and records management professionals, the trend defies established protocols, raising both concern and legal risk that teetering piles of data may eventually come crashing down.

The traditional paradigm for defensible data control demands aggressive lifecycle management and deletion. However, it’s clear that we’re entering an era in which hoarding is pervasive contrary to established guidelines. Data defensibility can no longer be viewed as the duty of a single department or business unit. Rather than fighting trends, it’s time for the enterprise to take a holistic approach towards data management, unifying scattered data sources into a singular, centralized portal of control.

This webinar will discuss strategies for enterprise-wide unstructured data management, and how all branches of the business can better achieve their “Big Data” goals with a coordinated approach.
