General: Introduction to Excel for Law Firm Professionals

Spreadsheets can be an essential tool in the modern law office.  Many attorneys and legal
staff, however, don’t understand the many functions of Excel nor how a spreadsheet tool can be
used to handle many tasks.  We'll tell you what you need to know to get started using Microsoft
Excel.

You'll learn the basic functions of spreadsheets, cell references, how functions/formulas work, turning data into charts and spreadsheets, using Excel as a database or to import/export database formats, and how to set up a basic budget spreadsheet that can be easily modified to
fit a variety of law office scenarios. Already familiar with Excel? Use this course as a convenient refresher!

Meet your presenter:

Russell Jackman is a graduate of the McGeorge School of Law, University of Pacific, and was admitted to the State Bar of California in June, 1994. He is a frequent lecturer on a wide variety of computer subjects  including the California State Bar Annual MCLE Conferences and Section Education Institutes from 1999 to the present. Mr. Jackman has been a Professor at the College of Marin; California State University at Hayward; St. Mary’s College and San Francisco State University.  He is the author of the Introductory Chapter of the CEB publication, “Internet Guide to California Lawyers.”  He has been a regularly featured author in the Law Practice Management and Technology publication, “The Bottom Line” and participated in the San Francisco Trial Lawyer Association’s “Trial of the Year” 2011 (Miller v. CPMC).
